Will wedding bells be ringing in Batwoman’s future? According to Bleeding Cool, the latest issue of the lesbian caped crusader’s solo series suggests it’s a strong possibility. In Batwoman #17, published today, Kate Kane (Batwoman) proposes to her secret girlfriend Maggie Sawyer. The issue marks another historic milestone for LGBT representation in the media genre as it contains the first lesbian proposal in a mainstream comic book.

Followers of Batwoman artist J.H. Williams III were treated to a hint viaTwitter before the issue’s release that an important chapter in the life of DC’s leading lesbian lady would be going down this week. He also expressed why the character has come to mean so much to him and fans alike on his personal website on Tuesday. “Batwoman is an important character, and a socially important one that has meaning that extends well beyond the printed pages of the world she lives in, reaching out into ours possibly affecting those who encounter her story.”

Positive buzz about one of the highest profile LGBT superheroes in comics today will undoubtedly be welcomed by DC, as the latest developments in Batwoman have unfolded on the heels of the publisher’s earlier controversial announcement that antigay advocate Orson Scott Card would pen the new anthology comic book series Adventures of Superman.

I feel super awkward posting this/asking for donations but I just don’t know what else to do. A friend of mine made this gofundme page for me. For those who don’t know, I am in a lot of pain and facing about $4000 worth of dental work.

The image is this: First batch are my wisdom tooth extractions - one of which requires a “partial bony” removal. Second batch is my deep cleaning. Third batch is my root canal, crown, and crown lengthening surgery. The fourth batch is my cavities which need fillings.

This is my current status: I was able to get Penicillin for my infections and I began to take it last night. This should kill off the infections in about 10 days. That’s good, because the infections are like the most dangerous part. The problem is what happens afterward.

I have two infections. One is in the upper right wisdom tooth, and the other is in a lower left molar. Once the infections are cleared up, I will need to get those two teeth taken care of ASAP or else the infections will just come back. I am still looking for a low income resource for extracting wisdom teeth, I think I might be able to find one. The other tooth is a bigger problem, as it requires a root canal and gum surgery that will cost $2000. I have yet to find a lower cost dentist for that. I do have the option of extracting that tooth which will save me a lot of money, however it is one of my main chompers (back molar by the wisdom tooth). I would really, really like to save that tooth if I can. If I can’t come up with the money, I will have to extract it… in which case, ok, I’ll live. But I want to save it if I can.

A lot of people have asked me if I’ve looked at low income/sliding scale dentists, county clinics, dental schools, etc. Yes, I have. I have exhausted every option. The total cost that I was given was given to me by a relatively low cost dentist at a membership discount price - I have gone ONLY to low income, sliding scale, and discounted dental places. I have not even bothered looking at full price dentists. I have looked at every resource I can find in my city, and even called a hot line and had them look some up for me. So yes, I have looked at all of my options and am finding the cheapest ones I can. The problem is, many many low income clinics do not extract wisdom teeth, do not touch infected teeth, do not do root canals, and have similar prices on deep cleanings. I will be able to go to a cheap place for the fillings I need, but that will be the last problem I address. The first things I need to take care of are the infected teeth and the root canal. 

Yes, I have applied for Care Credit. I was rejected due to insufficient credit history - as I have nearly none. I have applied for a credit card through my bank and am waiting to hear if they’re going to give it to me or not. But even if they do, I highly doubt the limit will be high enough to pay for the root canal.

Basically, I need help. And I hate that, I hate asking for help, and I hate asking for money. I don’t do it, I’ve never done this before. At least not for myself! But I don’t know what else to do here.

The pain is excruciating, I can’t remember the last time I was comfortable. Any help you can give, whether it be $1 or $10 or $100 or just a reblog… It is appreciated.

I will keep updating about the process. Right now I need to wait for the infections to go away before I take the next step. As I go along I will be posting proof and evidence of the work I’m getting done, just so anyone who donates knows that it IS going to my teeth and not to stupid bullshit.

I am making this page for a good friend of mine who is always generous with everything that she has, though that is not much. She has had severe tooth pain for a year now and has been taking Ibuprofen every day since November, which is extremely dangerous for her liver and only helps a little bit, but the pain is too severe for her to handle without it. Well, she finally found a low cost dentist who would give her an exam for cheap so she could find out everything that was wrong and get an estimate of the cost.

When she walked out of the dentist’s office with the verdict and the estimated cost, which was over $4,000, she sobbed uncontrollably. She found out that she has two severe infections, a root canal that is so extreme it will require small gum surgery to remove some of her gums, 4 of her wisdom teeth need to be extracted and one will require surgery to dig it out of the bone, she needs 6 cavities filled, and she needs a deep cleaning that will require them to numb her entire mouth because her pain levels are so high.

The total that she was given is over $4,000, and that does NOT include the medicine that she needs to cure the infection, the numbing, or the pain medication that she will need afterwards.

Rem works a minimum wage job and $4000 is half of what she makes in a year. She has no health insurance and even low income and sliding scale dentists cannot not make her dental work affordable.

Yes, I know, teeth doesn’t sound like a very threatening problem, but she’s facing two infections right now, and that’s fuckin’ serious shit.
